Boots should be boycotted; they pay no tax in Britain and are run only to maximise profit without any nurturing of the core business - cynically playing on the established good name. The service is rubbish - complete disdain for customers; no staff available on shop floor for help. The last time I ventured in I refused their naff ' gift ' of vouchers explaining that I would never return. To me they are a potent symbol of the sadness that is corporate run Britain.
St Anne's pharmacy are brilliant - caring, careful checking of prescriptions and always sage sane advice. worth seeking out.

The Lewes branch seems like an exceptionally unhappy place to work - anyone employed there like to tell us what it's like? And, yes, the prescription service is reaching depts I couldn't even imagine possible. Is there a manager there?

on the tax front, did any of you lot watch that thing about how your taxes are spent the otherday...acording to the chap presenting it there is a 1 billion pound gap between what the chancellor collects and what is spent for our good,he didn't mention the fact that big corperations like Boots are suposed to pay their tax and fill that gap but don't..it was like a tory party advert explaining to silly little voters why these difficult decisons have to be made, but missing out the relevence of uncollected tax.But it's so difficult to stand up to these big companies isn't it...they are the reason that tax gap exhists.

When I rang to complain about poor service the manager blamed the staff, school holidays and lunch time; maintained that there were indeed staff on the shop floor to help.
The staff told a different story....but they want to keep their jobs of course.
Not just Boots branch in Lewes - all branches are jumping to greedy management targets set by indifferent profit hungry executives.
and hey ho - it is wryly amusing that people seem surprised. It's not just Boots - it's all multi nationals in the high street

I used to use Boots but it became intolerable after queueing to find that prescriptions were not ready/missing/incorrect.
I discovered St Anne's pharmacy which is far superior, no queueing, nice people, will deliver and even has it's own 20 minute parking space.

I went to Boots a week or so ago and had to wait over 45 minutes for them to find my lost prescriotion and then fill it. During that time I watched 5 other people come in for prescritions and in 4 out of 5 cases there was a problem of some sort (lost prescriptions mainly). I could not believe how inefficient their system seemed to be and felt rather sorry for the pharmacy staff who obviously were fighting against a poor or poorly implemented system. Certainly wont go back there again.

I have commented before on the Boots subject so,let me make your eyes glaze over once more. I have taken in a prescription, waited, patiently(until rage takes over)to find, that although there are sometimes several people out the back, the queue is very much ignored.Told it will be ready, in say, twenty minutes, you go away. Now, on the odd occasion I have decided that I will come in the next morning. You guessed it,not been done yet! Top of the town,St Annes.

I used to work in the pharmacy six or seven years ago and it saddens me to see how bad it is there now. All the comments posted previously are true.
I for one never take my prescriptions these days.
St Anne's in Western Road are so efficient, speedy and courteous. No I don't work there it is just the truth.

Some years ago, there was a manager at Boots who had the place running like clockwork.Tall, slim, man that probably many older ones remember. It certainly is the truth Ex Employer. How can St Annes manage to give an excellent service with just two pharmacists, deliver, all with a smile, from a small shop with at the most I would say, including the one who is on the counter, and the one who delivers, five in total?Boots, at times, have six people behind(I have counted them)making up the prescriptions! On a VERY rare occasion,I have gone into BOOTS,and yes, I have learned my lesson.BOOTS, could do with some dung in their boots, or, a dollop of gawd help me as my old mum used to say!An absolute abysmal service.

Decent Citizen you mean Mr Cottingham. He was my manager, those were the days. No 45 minute wait and the wrong medicine dispensed then.
I believe a lot of the Boots customers now go to St Anne's if they can.

More: have you noticed how the staff hide round the back and when do they come out keep their eyes down so they don't have to see the queue building up? And that odd little barrier that is supposed to show where you should be queueing but just confuses everyone? From my experience the instructions are 'Don't do any work on the prescription until they come in and ask for it - and then tell them to go away from 15 minutes'.

The parent company is Alliance Boots. I'm sure they'd be interested to hear what people think of the pharmacy at Boots in Lewes and the fact that so many people are deserting it. It does not reflect well on their reputation.

Ex Employee, thankyou. Sadly I could not recall his name. Yes indeed the staff were very efficient then. Southover Queen I have no sympathy with apathetic people who do not fight back. There are enough of them hiding round the back to get themselves together and to confront management. Sour faces,go slows, entirely unnecessary.I found, as a shop assistant etc, years ago, that a chatty, friendly, smiley face got you forgiven for many a delay, etc. It certainly made the day go faster. In my opinion as an oldie, there is absolutely no excuse for the dour, uninterested, miserable faces one encounters in Boots on the Dispensary. Away from the dispensary, there are some extremely pleasant, friendly, chatty assistants. I use St Annes, have done since it opened but,I observe at Boots, as I use the store generally, so feel qualified to comment.

It's an utterly useless shop imo. I've been boycotting them since they told me that 20 vol peroxide had been discontinued, when it had just been removed from their stock list.
I'm another St Anne's fan. I drop my scrip requests off there, saves me parking at the doctors. Then pick up the stuff a day or two later. The ladies in there are great, really friendly and helpful
We should have a poll for the shop in Lewes that gives the best service. Then one for the worst!

The solution is as simple as using the other chemists in the town that DO value

We should all collectively boycott any business that doesn’t pay its fair share of tax in this country.
