Who can recommend a decent place for breakfast in this town?
Please don't mention "The Cafe" as I found the childish humour on the walls and surly woman at the helm put me off my unremarkable breakfast

Aw I thought this was going to be about mistakes made by the BBC Breakfast news presenter teams. Have to say Rachel was presenting a lovely warm front on the local weather yesterday

Des Pare you are truely a misery. The Cafe is great, fantastic food, quirky decor and fantastic service. You sir should stick to Bills, right up your street!

The Cafe does a fab breakfast and no-one forces you to read the stuff on the walls. I've never found the lady in there surly, either (quite the opposite, in fact).
Maybe she just didn't like the cut of your jib, Des Pare.
If you fancy going a bit further afield, I can recommend Warren's in Newhaven. Great breakfast, terrific value and worth a drive down the C7 just for the banter with Warren's dad, who acts as a waiter.

Try the tea rooms at north chailey, (on the mini roundabout, petrol station on left, pub on right ,cafe dead ahead) great food, and nice people.

The Cafe (near the prison) is run/owened by a racist. I asked her why all that stuff was on the walls, she told me if I didnt like it I should go somewhere else. Its abit like the woman who lives a few doors from me, she thinks she not racist but would never let her spare room to a black person !. Glad to say I will not be entering there front doors again.

Why does that make her a racist?? It's her cafe and if you don't like it's decor go eat somewhere else! Don't see why that makes her racist! I'd be a bit careful saying things like that!

You ask a question, someone replies... you dont like the reply..... You don't eat there again. Its that simple, it in no way makes ANYONE but YOU an ignorant pig or a racist, and your attitude shows though.

Don't come on a Local forum and throw false accusations arround about local hard working business women. The thread asked if there was anywhere nice to have brekkie, not lets slag off local businesses that employ local people.
The owner of the Cafe is and has been a friend of mine since I was 6 years old, and I can say without a shadow of a doubt that she is in NO WAY A RACIST of any kind.
She is just smart, quick witted and doesn't tollerate ingorant pigs; and well above pond scum like you.

She was perfectly friendly and nice when I went in there with a black colleague.

oneeyeopen, what was it you saw that would make you think she is a racist? There are warning signs stating quite clearly that if you are of a delicate disposition you shouldn't read them. There's always a Viva Lewes to read in there, right up your street I should imagine.

If you actually took the time to read all the jokes/quotes/signs on the wall you would actually see that there is a varied selection of all walks of life ...a lot actually aiming at women !! Does this me she is sexist ??!!! No it means that she has a great sense of humour and some of the stuff is brought in by customers :-D. Also she has a calendar of page 3 models ! Does that make her a lesbian or against men ?? No again she is just giving her regular customers a giggle. So before you accuse someone of being a racist think about what your accusing her of as this is slander !

I visited Lewes for the first time in my life yesterday and I had one of the best breakfasts I have ever had at a cafe in Market Street. It may have been called "The Fillers" Just down from the War Memorial. The breakfast was HUGE and the place was dog friendly to boot. The owner was a charming woman and the lady who served me was like a model out of Vogue. She was the most beautiful woman I saw in Lewes that day. An Irish redhead with amazing white teeth. Newspapers were provided to read.
The owner allowed me to take my dog in as she also had a little mutt running around the place. She said if any sad buggers complain about the dog I could put it in the back. An all round great little caff.
