Just bought some lovely beef and horseradish sausage from offham farm shop. Bit pricy but fat and juicy. Anyone else got any recommendations for other local farm shops ?

The farm shop I would recommend is Holmansbridge - town littleworth road, barcombe - good quality, great service and excellent value - well worth a visit.

Many years ago (when living in Alfriston) Mr Wood (like all villages the good butchers are now closed) made the finest porkers outside of Ireland, so dedicated he was to his art, he lost his finger in the process of sausage making. I still dream of them till this day. Bangers and Mash is a fave of mine! And Onion gravy. Go online to Allens, Mount Street, Mayfair, good price and Fab sausages, they will deliver!

Good grief Byron old boy - at last someone who remembers Mr Wood and his sausages. My dad used to drive from Eastbourne to get them on a weekly basis.

Country Boy - Your Pa had very good taste! As I say, Allens, Mount St, Mayfair W1 do sausages almost as good, very reasonable and you can order online and they will deliver. Best, Peter

Over the years I have tried many varieties of sausage and yet I still find Richmond pork sausages hard to beat. And no I do not have shares in the firm ha ha.

The meat content in Richmonds sausages is rather low. I do like their skinless sausages though.

The Old Spot Farmshop in Piltdown used to do beef and horseradish pies. They were so damn good. God knows why they stopped doing them. I'll try the sausages at Offham. They sound great.

I can recommend Holmansbridge Farm shop too. Great quality meat and divine scotch eggs.

Anyone know where there's any wild horseradish growing? Would quite like to grab a bit of root and keep it in a pot. Ta.

I cant believe a Lewes person is recommending digging up the wild countryside just to get a bit of sauce !!! In 2012 !! That's where all the Primroses, Anemones wild Orchids etc went !!

There's a butcher in Petworth who does great sausages. Bit of a way to go, but worth stoppng for if you're passing through.
It's down by the car park at the lower end of town.

Re wild horseradish - please don't dig it up. Just gather leaves and collect seed instead. I'd also caution people against digging any root material from riverbanks - wild hemlock is extremely poisonous in all parts (looks like cowparsley/ carroty leaves) but especially roots (this information from a Devon farmer).
