The Vixen and 12 cubs on Spring Watch were lovely... so what if they eat the odd chicken and pheasant. I can forgive them that.... it's much easier than forgiving those that take life for fun.

I take it you've never seen what a fox does to a ewe when she's giving birth. Not a pretty sight. They're ruthless cowardly killers. Let the hounds rip them to shreds

The cowardly killers are the hunt people.... and they possess intellect, so they should know better... unlike foxes.

A better idea is to dress up hunters as ewes and let the foxes rip them to shreds instead.

What is the difference between a lion eating a gazelle and a fox eating a sheep?

Foxes are vermin who attack more than they can eat. At least man and lion kill their prey before they eat it. That's the difference, Wildlife "expert". What about the domestic cat, who tease and tortures its prey before killing it? Does the little old lady really know what Tibbles gets up to when he goes out?

People who think animals torture other animals for fun are wrong. And to call foxes cowards is just plain stupid.
Humans are the only creatures sick enough to torture animals for fun. Foxes will kill all the chickens in the coup because they do not know when they will be able to feed again. Suggest you animal haters on here learn some basic natural history facts.

Have you ever seen a seal playing with a fish, a cat playing with a bird? By your reckoning Country Ken they should be hunted by dogs and people on horses (on second thoughts, cats.....)

Animals 'play' with prey as a way of learning and improving hunting skills. Enjoyment has nothing to do with it.

Oh yes and killer wales 'playing' with seals.

Back to foxes. About now is when I fear for our chickens. The foxes are not at all shy and are starting to teach their young to hunt. If they get my chickens it will be my fault though, not the fault of the foxes. Likewise if our native predator (and until recently severely-threatened) buzzard takes out a few of the landowners pheasants it's not the fault of the buzzard but the landowner for not protecting his overly-concentrated numbers of imported game birds.

Seen any otters round here yet? Perhaps we should hunt them too as they take the grossly overfed carp from the commercial fisheries.

The only reason most domestic cats play with small animals rather than killing them is that because we feed them, they have no need to hunt for food so never learn to kill things. They have all the hunting skills but lack the killer instinct. Sticking a bell on them is rather counter-productive too as it just makes them better hunters to make-up for the warning the bell gives their prey. Keeping your cat entertained at home will go some way towards stopping it decimating the local bird and rodent population but every cat is essentially an apex predator in our ecosystem and will be out killing things most of the time they're not at home asleep.

I'm rather pleased to have two killer cats. They keep our old house free of vermin like mice and rats. We obviously don't feed them enough because they regularly kill and eat mice, leaving only the innards and preferring the head and bum !
Have to admit I'm not quite so happy when they go for the birds, but it is natural behaviour.

THE HUNTING WITH HOUNDS IS BANNED, thanks to the will of parliament and our elected representatives. They now chase a piece of string or something, and the great brave hunt sabbs are their to police their activity , because these hunter toffs will break the law when it suits them.
