Hi, Just got bt broadband they promised 14mb in landport now its connected I'm only getting 7 they said line is still being stabilized and it will go up after 10days ??
anyone else got bt down here or know if this statement is true

Line does need to 'stabilise'. That bit is true anyway. Still, it seems unlikely to stabilise at twice the speed you get now, unless they set it very wrong to begin with.

exactly what I was thinking, If I was down the cliffe I would expect good speed but when they said I would get 16mb in landport I got rather excited

14-16Mb in Landport? I think someone's been selling you porkie pies.

yeah exactly but the nice thing is its in black n white so maybe nice half price deals until they finish poncing around with the green cabinets

14 -16mb in Landport on Bethere. But BT traffic shape and it will dpend on how many other suckers are on BT in your street. Talk Talk are crap everywhere, wouldn't touch them with a barge pole.

I have Talk Talk on Nevill. 8MB speed, which is about right according to BT, and pretty much faultless.

From the end of the month Optic Fibre Broadband should be available in some parts of Lewes.

I've got talk talk as well and also up in the Nevill, and it's fine....and cheaper than BT !

Seem to get 6MB in Winterbourne with Sky. Bit annoying as I pay for 'up to 20' but, to be fair, it seems to cover all my internet needs.

Am up on Neville and with orange. Have just done test on U switch and got 4.7 Mb but the results also give an average for each provider. It might be useful for you to look at this. NB I would not recommend talk talk. They cut us off for no reason. They were impossible to contact there is just a call centre in India. They pass you round from pillar to post. To cap it all they are thieves. What else can I call it when they take random amounts from your bank account 6 months after you have cancelled your contract with them. Send you threatening letters when you cancel the direct debit agreement. Eventually agree to refund the money and then don't. Nb we were well out of our contract time when we cancelled. When I had a problem with Orange I called them up and they corrected the problem straight away. So I would rather have a slightly slower speed but be able to speak to someone who is capable of sorting out a problem.

"why am I a "sucker"??" BT Traffic shape your connection, have consistently the worst customer service, take money when they feel like it. They are by far the worst company for selling your details and the biggest culprit when it comes down to cold calling . any more? The BT monopoly on the actual hardware lines should have been broken years ago, they have taken this country for monkeys for years. No real personal offense meant, more a dig at BT.

I'm on the Malling estate at the end furthest from the exchange and I get 4mb. Looking forward to the new infrastructure being ready.
Don't touch Talk Talk. I used to have them and was getting less than 1Mb, sometimes less than 0.5mb. When I complained, they said this was acceptable performance. When I complained again, they said it was BT, not them and there was nothing they could do. I swapped to BeThere and the speed went up to 4Mb on day 1 and has stayed there.

I've just switched to Orange from BT on a deal that will more than halve my monthly bills. The broadband switch went fine: the only glitches were down to me not reading the instructions properly and Indian helpdesk put me right very politely. 10 days later the phone switched and cut me off completely: no dialling out, constant engaged tone incoming.Helpdesk confirmed there was a problem with the line that requires action at the exchange - but I'm due to be out for a week before it's fixed. Is this BT punishing me for leaving, or is it just one of those things that has to take time?

No problems with my BT broadband: as you can see I am on the Forum. I think in the long term the old established firms are the best. Seeboard, (or whatever fancy name they now have) are still cheapest for electricity in this area. It's a pity BT cannot bar international calls from one's phone, as this is where the worst junk calls come from.
