hi, when i was about 10 years old i remember my brother and sister taking me to barcombe mills as a family day out, but it was not by the pub as it is now adays i remember being driven down a dirt track into a field to park up then we we would get out and sit in a field with an old caravan and the boats were paid for in a little hut, i also think it was by a farm. can anyone help me out as i would like to visit this site where it used to be again to bring back old memories. it was about 45 years ago now. please help.

you must be thinking of Browns Boat Yard. Don't think they have the boats anymore but you go fishing there, just buy a ticket at the cottage.

Yes, afraid the pub, the station & the boat hire are all now different uses. The mill has gone too. You can still get a boat & a pub/restaurant adventure at the Anchor further upriver. The forum's been quite lively on the Anchor.

Terry, park your car free at Barcombe Mills car park, exit the path from the car park over the pack horse bridges and follow the track, then turn north on your farm road behind the houses, and you will come to what was Browns boatyard, which is now a private house. Follow the footpath behind the house to The Anchor Inn or, cross the bridge just south of the house and follow the footpath alongside the river back to the car park. The countryside is still very beautiful and the evidence of locks, railway, factories, gun emplacements etc is all there if you look hard enough. Eat where the locals eat - Royal Oak, "dogs, children and muddy boots welcome." Hope you enjoy it.
