A few months back they closed Poile Ward in the old Edwardian hospital building, and moved the patients to single rooms (mostly en suite) in the more modern Meadow Lodge, part of the same community hospital. Poile ward was re-vamped for day treatments. Personally I'd far rather stay in Meadow Lodge.
Mind you, the PCT did hand over the whole community hospital to the Eastbourne DGH Trust (on govt instructions). The Eastbourne hospital trust, not exactly a shining advert for the NHS, is generally deep in the financial doodoo, and the end of the financial year is approaching. Desperate times, desperate measures - if they don't meet their financial target the Chief Execs highly paid job is at risk.
