Can anyone remember the name of the toy shop on the corner of the high street opposite boots where the charity shop is now ?
It must of been back in the mid to late 70's and had an upstairs to it.
Could it've been Macey's or Lacey's ? And was it ever a Gamleys (i can remember the pet shop being Gamleys before Conrad took over)

It was Laceys, but I don't remember them selling toys, although that could just be my dodgy memory. I remember them selling bikes, and Intersport had the upstairs bit for a while.

Laceys was a fairly large store taking the whole area on that corner. From the early 70s,I have a memory of father xmas upstairs. Downstairs there was an area with a large set out train set.Vague memories it"s true but,I recall it being a beautiful, oldie worlde place selling varius things, the like of which has long gone. The other similar store was where ASK is now.

I remember Lacey's well. A lovely shop, run by David Fuller. It had a delightful coffee shop upstairs, and general fashion and furnishings downstairs. In many ways, it was a 1970's Wickle. Maybe it was ahead of its time, but its closure was a loss to Lewes.

Shoes from Milwards, wasn't allowed to go to Freeman Hardy and Willis. McCartney and Stewart was on ASK site. Downstairs materials and patterns, upstairs for Ladybird clothes. Oh memories
