What's with all the police sirens?????????????

A26 East Sussex - A26 in Lewes closed in both directions between Earwig Corner and the Wellingham Lane junction, because of an accident.

if they are out of the car then its an ok one.
We they are sitting there doing nothing then start to worry, been to loads of RTC's

Unless they were ejected or laid out in mortuary fashion...

Just to update: it was nasty, but could have been nastier. VW cut the corner and hit the transit head-on, taking a wheel off it. Transit ended up in the hedges, driver very shaky (who wouldn't be?) but substantially OK, cuts and bruises etc. VW driver out of it, and car totally smashed up and leaking fluid which caused some panic at first, hence was freed from car and pulled to safety by first people on scene, where he came round after a while. He was badly cut, and the paramedics immobilised him on a spinal board, though I think that was probably precautionary. Quite a few other drivers had the fright of their life, car parts flying everywhere, etc, but mercifully little damage/injury to anyone else. So many accidents on this stretch of road - the bend is just too tight for the speed people come off the straight stretch down from Ham Lane. People think it's a fast A road, then, suddenly...boom. Literally, every so often. This accident happened in clear, dry conditions, but obviously its not always dry, clear or even light. I worry that one day something really bad will happen, for want of a bit of remedial highways work. Anyway, that is the story - nasty and scary for those present, but could have been much, much worse.

Are there chevrons on that bend?
I agree there seem to be a lot of accidents there. This would be case where a "safety" (ie, speed) camera and a reduced speed limit might do some good.
I'm glad it wasn't worse, tbh, it sounds pretty bad.

Ham lane?

There are chevrons visible as you drive north, but it's the vehicles coming south towards Lewes that seem to come a cropper. There are 'left deviation' and 'reduce speed now' signs, but people just don't seem to take much notice, tbh. I can't think of anywhere there are speed cameras locally. I drive up and down from Sussex to London regularly, and don't think I see any before Surrey. Does anyone know of any in the area? There would probably need to be a local precedent for the council to consider it. I think the speed-triggered warning signs, such as at Laughton or Cooksbridge (although that one seems not to work at the moment) can be effective. It seems very difficult to get the highways department to make changes though.

Thanks for the update, First Aider. I'm always very cautious around there - turning out of Wellingham Lane towards Lewes, just before that bend, is always a heart in mouth moment because of the speed of northbound traffic.

I agree, I think those animated signs are excellent. I tend to think that if the local authority wants to get people driving more safely they'll put one of those up; if they want a nice little earner they'll hide a Gatso. If they couldn't give a stuff they do nothing, which is what seems to have happened here. What a surprise.

There are Speed Camera's at Halland I know I got caught, and had to do the Speed refresher course ,and the Good Lady also was caught on Marine Parade in Brighton I should also add we are both in our 70.s and have had clean licences since the 1950's ( that hurt )
