I've just noticed tucked away in the Lewes Parking Review that ESCC are proposing to extend the no waiting at anytime on the east side of Barcombe High Street for some forty yards from the roundabout to Gladstone Buildings, stopping people from parking outside Barcombe Stores and displacing some four to six motor vehicles. It will affect passing trade,
residents parking and increase the speed of motor vehicles through the High Street. If you have a comment write to Philip Baker at County Hall, Lewes,
or leave a comment on ESCC Have your say website before 1st August.
    Thanks people.

That's further than I thought it was going to extend. Silly idea. I wonder what the reasoning is? Could it be to accommodate those stupidly oversized tractors that hurtle dangerously round the place.

Annoying that LDC only take responses by post.

East Sussex County Council is the driver. Have a look at the Parish Council
    noticeboard in the village.

I don't think the "oversize" tractors are the problem. In common with the huge juggernauts collecting sweetcorn, they are probably the most sensible drivers on the road. Now the "Chelsea" tractors that use Barcombe as a rat-run are a bigger menace. (Barcombe Mills is shut for road works for a week next Wednesday, so some respite there)
Yellow lines and no parking will make it easier to pop into the shop. You never see a Bluebottle in Barcombe.

Unofficially, the parking wardens are staying clear of Barcombe until the mess is sorted - the 8am start of the single yellows should have been 9am to embrace the school run. Incidentally today ESCC have begun remarking
the yellow lines. Because it's in a conservation area, the lines are supposed to be narrow and primrose in colour - you've got it, they're yellow and wide!
    The saga continues.....

The huge tractors are driven at high speeds on Barcombe roads. The frequency might have increased since the Strouds bought Bridge Farm. Are those pumped-up tractors owned by the Strouds?

Extra - Some jobsworth was repainting lines in Barcombe High Street yesterday the wrong colour.
It was pointed out to him but he said "I just been told to do it so I got to do it" It's known in the trade as the "German Defence".
Its an order so I had to follow it. No matter how obvious it is to everyone that it is wrong.

Give me strength! As local councillor I have e-mails going back to 2005 which show disturbing similarity. I have made "strong representation to ESCC, but the changes come as a result of the "consultation" held at great expense last year. It is important residents write to me as I need evidence or to the county and further attend the Parish council. By the way, I understand the Fire Service welcome the parking as it slows down traffic going through the village and the Stroude's normally use Church Lane. It is other contractors who might try the village High Street.

Large tractors: At least one of the drivers is a madman and they are very frightening vehicles to meet on a narrow corner or stretch (like Crink for instance).

I am fed up of the Tory ESCC dictating our parking policy after bent 'consultation' sops. I do not like the blue clad Lewes based storm troopers who descend en-mass on our quiet village every now again and book virtually everyone who's parked in the High Street. I abhor the stupidly dangerous tyre-bursting curbs the Highways Authority have stuck by the side of the country lanes in all the most inconvenient places. I detest the fact that LDC do not listen to our local parish council when planning matters are considered. And I'd also be glad if our right-wing libertarian ESCC Councillor Donna Edmonds did not darken our village with her avowed imperative to privatise the National Health.

The UK needs true local democracy. We should declare Barcombe a Republic now!

I think it's an excellent suggestion: Jim and Donna can set up a little libertarian experiment somewhere in the woods. Passports needed both ways, obviously, with an electrified fence to keep them contained.

Who is Donna Edmonds? Haven't seen her around here for a couple of years funnily enough.
