Tristan the Owner of the 15th Century Bookshop passed away on Tuesday. Condolences to his family, that is such a great shop.

That is very sad. He was one of the first people we spoke to in Lewes and was very kind to our kids. He even managed to convince them that the large stuffed lion in the upstairs window belonged to Elton John (that may be true, I don't know) !

Tristan was a great guy. A real character, not afraid to speak his mind. A real Englishman, even though he was French. I will miss him.

I remember being in the Black Horse one Saturday night many years ago. Sunday horseracing had only just started but the bookies weren't allowed to open. He wanted to back a horse called Piccolo for the next day but didn't know how to do it. I didn't know him and never spoke to him but whenever I saw him I'd say "Piccolo! Piccolo! I want to back Piccolo" to myself in his French accent!
