My name is Tarquin Whitmore and I am a student at the University Of The Trent in Nottingham.
I am currently trying to write the definative word on Carnivals in the UK.
One of my researchers has informed me of an organisation in Lewes called the Commercial Square Carnival Society that holds a winter carnival in November, Based around fire. (presumably to keep themselves warm)
I have been told that the society has many members that parade around the town dressed as either cowboys, indians or bumble bees (I don't quite get the bumble bee conection) There are Various floats within the ranks including one built to resemble a totem pole.
At the end of the evening all the members gather around a fire which is built in the road outside a shop called Carnival in the Commercial Square district of Lewes and recite, word for word the lyrics to The Seekers epic " The Carnival Is Over"
Can anyone on this forum tell me if these facts are correct and if so when in November is this Carnival supreme?

Tarquin: two things you should know.
    1. Your university in not called 'University of the Trent' but is called 'Nottingham Trent University'.

    2. You need a dictionary and then you may learn that 'definative' is wrong.

Now p*ss off and stop wasting people's time.

Do you mean you are a student at the University of Trent, Nottingham? Prety poor if you can't even get the name of your university right?! I do hope you are not a post grad student, if you are I don't hold out much hope for the quality of your research if you haven't found google or the excellent web pages devoted to Lewes! And, I presume your "researchers' are mates from the uni bar!

Strange that you describe SBS as a DFL zone - the society was reformed by two locals and 'mans' the bar at Lewes FC...

Bad form Geronimo. There is no animosity between CSBS and CBS, except for when stupid people make comments like that. If you are a Bonfire Boy you should know better.

The only time I've ever seen CSBS members at outmeetings is in the pubs, never in the processions. I always assumed they were some kind of deliquent drinking club, rather than a bonfire society.

Actually, Tarquin's university is the Combined University of Nottingham & Trent. At least, those are the letters he's got after his name.
