Lewes Skeptics in the Pub - Ben Still
@
The Elephant and Castle
They are all around us in every nook and cranny. Trillions upon trillions inside and out of every planet, star, galaxy and the space in between. Billions pass through you every single second, night and day. But despite the phenomenal numbers it was not until 1953 that conclusive evidence of the existence of the most abundant thing in nature was discovered: the neutrino.
Since then scientists have devoted their lives to chasing these ghosts of nature. Despite its meagre size the tiny neutrino has had a profound effect upon our Universe and may hold the answer to one of the greatest questions of all time: the Creation of the Universe.
Dr Ben Still is a particle physicist. He works as part of an international collaboration of about 500 scientists and engineers on the Tokai to Kamioka (T2K) experiment in Japan. The T2K experiment aims to use the world's most intense beam of neutrinos, one of the least understood of the fundamental particles, fired from the East coast of Japan to the Super-Kamiokande particle detector 295km to the West. By investigating the changes in the their properties as the neutrinos travel between the two sites physicists can get closer to understanding these Universe-creating particles.
Ben's website is http://www.benstill.com/
This event is being hosted in collaboration with the Brighton Science Festival.

Buffo's Wake - Live
@
The Lamb
Buffo's Wake takes the style of Eastern European gypsy music and spins it on its head with a dark and macabre twist.
Their strange and unique blend of Gypsy Punk and Horror Folk has captivated audiences and critics alike. Snarling vocals, offbeat lyrics, sweeping violins, dark, twisting melodies and intense breaks make Buffo’s Wake head and shoulders above your usual gypsy fair.
Sounds Like: the gate has swung shut behind you at the abandoned fairground!

Reiki Level 1 Certificated Course
@
Equilibrium Health Centre
An affordable way to learn a new healing art and to enhance your existing therapeutic skills!
Reiki Master Susan Hall will be holding a Reiki Level 1 Course over 2 Sundays. As part of the course each student will be attuned to the Reiki healing energy. This process then allows the student to give healing to themselves and others throughout their lifetime.
Sue's classes are friendly and informal, and you will experience the simple method of how Reiki is performed. Learning Reiki is not an academic exercise so it is suitable for people of all ages.
During a Reiki treatment, the hands are placed lightly on 12 basic positions on the fully clothed body. The Reiki energy naturally activates and radiates via the palms of the practitioner’s hands. The recipient’s own healing mechanisms draw the right amount of energy wherever needed on the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual level.
Reiki allows the recipient to enter a state of balance where healing can take place. It is a transformational energy that can be life changing.
On successful completion of the 2 day course, you will receive a Reiki Level 1 Certificate. The course runs from 10.00am to 5.00pm each day and the cost of £150 includes free refreshments throughout the course.
