Tai ji quan is a martial art, a health practice and a meditation in movement.

Tai chi teaches us how to be present and aware of our body and our mind as we progress through learning the Tai chi form.

It is both simple and profound and a wonderful process to engage with, teaching us much about ourselves along the way.

Because it is performed slowly, with mindfulness and in time with the breath, it has a profound effect on maintaining and recovering good physical and mental health.

Its like a kind of physical soduko. Making new connections within the body and opening new neural pathways in the mind, as
the student learns to move in this soft, coordinated, connected way.

As the student progresses through the form we explore the meaning of the postures and martial applications hidden within the form through pushing hands, i.e. soft, cooperative partner work.

Further martial training and weapons are available for the committed student.

I am a 6th generation successor of the Wu family from Shanghai and have 20 years experience of Tai chi & Qi gong.

Mindfulness 8-Week Course - MBCT 19:30 - 21:40 Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy for Wellbeing - 8 Week Course

Mindfulness has been used for thousands of years for promoting a general sense of wellbeing. It is now widely recognized as being a powerful tool that can help anyone enhance their appreciation of life, manage stress and other challenges, and improve performance in activities and tasks.

Mindfulness has been shown to

• Reduce stress, anxiety and low-moods
• Increase focus and concentration
• Improve decision-making
• Enhance creativity
• Improve communication
• Increase productivity


Mindfulness has even been shown to produce a wide range of positive changes to the brain.
Mindfulness particularly helps reduce ‘over thinking’ which can then increase our enjoyment of life and make us more effective in whatever we do. Many people have also reported finding mindfulness very helpful in both their personal relationships and work roles.
Although MBCT was originally taught in healthcare settings this is a ‘generalised’ version of MBCT course that is relevant for everyone wanting to live more fully and maintain a sense of balance and inner harmony though life’s ups and downs.

Joy of Movement - holistic dance and movement for health 10:30 - 11:30 Joy of Movement is a gently guided class and combines simple, flowing and easy to follow dance and mindful movement for women of all ages, fitness levels and experience. Enjoy an hour of breathing, gentle stretching and simply guided, easy to follow movement to some uplifting and inspiring music. Our class is low impact and we focus more on body sensation and feeling good than cardio fitness, though we do get fit in the process! Participants are guided to follow their own energy output. All classes end with mindful breathing and a meditative seated or lying reflection time. Many of clients find that having healing can be very soothing when going through a stressful period of their life and people can also come for healing when they simply want a deeper connection to themselves, feel the need to slow down, relax and find their inner balance and peace. Meditation for Body, Mind and Spirit, Tuesdays 2 - 3pm 02:00 - 03:00 We are a friendly group of vibrant people who believe that our true nature is pure joy. We know that we all deserve a happy life and through the Meditation for Body, Mind & Spirit we reconnect to our true selves and access the unlimited possibilities for our lives.

The Meditation starts with a focus on the breath, gently relaxing each part of the body until a state of deep relaxation is reached. The next step is an Inner Journey, a guided visualisation usually dedicated to a theme such as trust, self-love, owning your power, freedom, celebration of your uniqueness, happy relationships, abundance and vitality. An innate part of this journey is connecting to our Guardian Angels, opening to their messages and their healing. For many, this is a profound experience. After the meditation session we pick an angel card for inspiration. No previous experience is necessary, all welcome! We are all spiritual beings having a human experience!

Beginners Tai Chi drop in classes (first session is free) 19:30 - 21:00 We teach Tai Chi following the teachings of Master Wee Kee Jin of the Tai Chi School of Central Equilibrium. Within our system we teach the Tai Chi principles through the 5 Loosening exercises of our teacher’s teacher Grandmaster Huang Sheng Shyan. Each week we teach the 37 step short form as a means of embodying the Tai Chi principles. As our understanding develops we then we bring those principles into partner work. Using the Tai Chi classics as a guide to deepen our practice we build on our understanding and generate greater focus in our training.

Tai Chi is great for health, relaxation, mindfulness, balance and it’s fun!

Joy of Movement / holistic dance and movement for health 10:30 - 11:30 Joy of Movement is a gently guided class and combines simple, flowing and easy to follow dance and mindful movement for women of all ages, fitness levels and experience. Enjoy an hour of breathing, gentle stretching and simply guided, easy to follow movement to some uplifting and inspiring music. Our class is low impact and we focus more on body sensation and feeling good than cardio fitness, though we do get fit in the process! Participants are guided to follow their own energy output. All classes end with mindful breathing and a meditative seated or lying reflection time. We especially welcome people who haven't moved in a long time, or 'ever' in a class situation as we are a friendly, non judgemental group of women of a broad range of ages who just love to dance with no worries of 'getting it right’.

Mindfulness 8-Week Course - MBSR 11:00 - 13:10 Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction (MBSR)

Mindfulness has been used for thousands of years for promoting a general sense of wellbeing. It is now widely recognized as being a powerful tool that can help anyone enhance their appreciation of life, manage stress and other challenges, and improve performance in activities and tasks.

Mindfulness has been shown to

• Reduce stress anxiety and low moods
• Increase focus and concentration
• Improve decision-making
• Enhance Creativity
• Improve Communication
• Increase productivity

Mindfulness has even been shown to produce a wide range of positive changes to the brain. Mindfulness particularly helps reduce ‘over thinking’ which can then increase our enjoyment of life and make us more effective in whatever we do.

Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is an 8-week course in how to use mindfulness in daily life. It is used widely around the world now for the general public and in workplace settings and is appropriate for anyone wishing to live life more fully. Originally designed to help people manage the stress of chronic pain has now been scientifically shown to reduce stress in healthy people too and bring a range of other benefits. In controlled trials, it has also been shown to reduce anxiety. In fact, one study has shown MBSR can reduce anxiety by 70%.
Many people have also reported finding mindfulness very helpful in both their personal relationships and work roles.

Newhaven Bowling Club #letsplaybowls FREE try it out sessions 10:00 - 12:45 From 13th May until the end of the season in September, Newhaven Bowling Club will he holding free weekly taster sessions. On our open day on the 13th Juniors can come down from 10am and adults can come down to view the facilities from 10am and get on the green from 11am. From 20th May adults can come down at 11.30am.
The local friendly club has an active social membership, plays matches with other clubs and has hotly contested club competitions. The green is one of the best kept in the area. At the taster sessions our qualified coach, Janet will be on hand to help all ages and all abilities from beginners to experienced players.
