Lewes Wireless Broadband Project

Lewes Wireless Broadband Project is the initiative of disabled people working together to bring community wireless broadband to the county town of Lewes. As a not-for-profit social enterprise project we are committed to promoting broadband wireless internet access and giving everyone a chance to enjoy the benefits of a high speed connection by building something called the LWB Network
The lwbnet.org.uk network is a computer based wireless signal connecting everyone in the local community. By sharing resources, the costs are also shared, making broadband internet access more affordable for all.

We operate a top-up pay-as-you-go system that is easy to subscribe to for both Apple Mac and Windows users.

Pay-as-you-go means you only pay when you want access either on a per day or per month basis. You only need to know your own email address and to remember a password you chose.

We offer a low cost service but may also be able to assist registered disabled.

We began the project in Jan 2006 as a trial in order to establish the reliability and suitability of mesh software and the hardware available.

We now have many hotspots in operation and have tested a number of different configurations.

We hope soon to be at the stage where we can publicise the availability we have in areas such as Cliffe and Pells.

We also intend to keep the access cost down and have introduced a pay-as-you-go system where you can just pay for either a day's access or a month's as suits you.

Concessionary connections may be available to the low waged and disabled and those who would be unable to connect to commercial broadband for financial reasons.
