Stay but be forced to buy everything from manufacturers, brewers, printers, farmers etc within 20 miles of Lewes town hall. If the suppliers don't exist, the supermarket can pay to set them up. Local jobs. No commuting. Wealth, health and happiness for all, for ever.

SHS - they'll go. You may be able to afford what the small producers produce but most people can't. And, anyway, in your utopia would you allow Lewes people to work in London, which many seem to do, bringing their London wages into the town.

I haven't got a clue what you are talking about, stay or go?
The only thing I would like to say about Tescos is that I allways admired the fact that they modelled their carrier bags on the Albions kit. A fantastic piece of marketing. I for one hope that when the Albion move to their new stadium in Falmer ( Ha Ha Ha unlucky De Vecchi or how ever it is you spell your silly Lib Dem Name) they celebrate the occasion by bringing back the 'NOBO' kit.

Just an idea, Sherlock, which could have some benefits. Ultimately I agree that currently they manage to give the majority what they want, else why else would they be so successful? Customer first etc.

We need a Lidl, McDonalds Wetherspoons and a town centre filling station. Instead of putting them on the edge of town i would suggest replacing some ugly old unused building in the town. The town hall would be ideal.

Save the woodyard! Let's have a museum, with a woody heritage walk and visitor centre! An excellent way to spend money (far better than transport) and a way to re-dress the desperate shortage of museums in this progress-driven country.

Not expanding Tesco has meant people have lost their jobs. I was never in favour of the expansion but since it has affected people I know, I am disappointed in the way Lewes (and I) reacted. We need jobs for Local people and if it means supporting these kind of places then maybe we should let them build. I don't want to see ugly modern buildings that do not fit in with the town, (or in the wrong place). If these kind of stores could work with the planners and architects, as well as the local people, to create functional and beautiful buildings the better it would be.
Hey the cynic in me says it won't happen!

How can not expanding mean people have lost their jobs? Surely they need the same number of staff as the store is the same size as it always was?
If jobs have been lost, it's because Tesco have found a way of getting by with fewer staff, eg by having us scan our own shopping. Don't be fooled by their propaganda!
