Watch out all you Lewesians who are under the impression that dentistry on the NHS will save them spending half the value of a house on plugging those cavities. I was recently told by mine that Iâ??d have to have a root canal treatment and because he had neither the time nor equipment (read inclination nor expertise) to carry it out, Iâ??d have to see a private super dentist and it would definitely cost £1000 plus. Having stuck it out for a few months hoping it would go away I then get told that Iâ??ll need to spend another £50 to be reassessed. It turns out that a much kinder albeit private dentist in the High St can do the whole thing for less than £490. Good thing Iâ??m a natural sceptic towards this profession, Iâ??ve seen one too many of them driving Ferraris...

Why don't you name and shame? This is shocking.
I have had fine NHS work completed at the dentist above Monsoon including root canal
    treatment.

I am hoping to register with the dentist that is located above Monsoon. I have had terrible experiences with the dentist at the bottom of school hill. Them trying to tell me that work cannot be carried out on the nhs in their practise, and that if i wanted to have it done by the nhs i would have to go on a waiting list and have it done in East Grinstead. Name and the shame the offending dentist.

I have never understood why teeth are not treated in the same way as other parts of the body via the NHS.

I'd been thinking that as well Merlin. Aren't eyes treated like teeth? In fact, one by one treatment of all the parts of out body will be privatised as the NHS shrinks. (Thanks for supporting the Tories on that Norman Baker).

I think eyes and teeth have been treated separately for decades.
Blair's government introduced most of the privitisation we have seen recently. To be fair we can thank Norman colleagues for diluting the Tories original proposals. As ususal the press choose not to publicise this.

I use the one above Monsoon. Jenny Ching. Blond, beautiful, easy to chat to and very very good at her job. I'm a chicken at the dentist but don't mind her doing me at all. (and I've had root canal done by her)

Went along to the dentist above Monsoon today and they are currently not taking new NHS patients, although it clearly states on the east sussex primary care trust website that they are! Have been put on their waiting list, so fingers crossed that they will be taking NHS patients soon, there is no way i am going to the one at the bottom of school hill again!

I went to the one above Monsoon last year after suffering the same rip -off at Albion street. There I was quoted over £700 and told only one dentist could do this in Sussex and luckily he was in Lewes (North St) and being so local they'd try and get a discount for me! The dentist above Monsoon not only did it for £49 but their attitude was so much more professional than Albion St who seem only interested in profit - and I was with them for 30 years. It all went wrong when Mr Royce retired.

Yes I have to agree with you on Albion Street. Completely profit driven now.

Rather than throwing them out entirely, do you mean? Clegg and his crones were all in favour of it as it stood before the delegates at the Lib Dem spring conference voted 314 to 270 against calling on Lib Dem peers to support the bill at third reading.
