There's been some great news on this just released in the last couple of days:
Community groups and organisations in Lewes will be able to use and enjoy the grounds of the old St Anne's School site after a lease agreement was finalised this week.
The community-led St Anne's Steering Group and East Sussex County Council have agreed to let the grounds to the voluntary organisation, 3VA for an initial one-year period.
3VA will be the accountable body and will provide advice, support and administrative help to the St Anne's Steering Group. The Steering Group will oversee use of the grounds for events and community activity.

Cllr Price. Why are they enforcing evening use only during summer weekends and no amplified music after 7pm when those of us near the Pells have amplified music till late evening - including sometimes during the week?

They're not enforcing evening use only during summer weekends. It states "Fridays and Saturdays only (May to August), the site can be used between 10am and 10pm (amplified music not allowed after 7pm)"
The "amplified music not allowed after 7pm" for events on the site is in consideration of the neighbours that are immediately next to and surrounding St Anne's.
If you have problems with amplified music around the Pells area, you can report it to Environmental Health, Lewes, on Tel: 01273 484354.

Yes, I know. Unfortunately Lewes Environmental Health Dept. don't seem keen to take noise seriously. Friends who have noise nuisance from The Lansdown Pub have the same experience.
How has anyone else found their response to noise complaints?

Pretty good on noise. I had neighbours some years ago who thought it was acceptable to do DIY with hammers & drills until 2.30.a.m. They ignored polite requests. So the Noise Abatmement Dept of the EHD was contacted. Neighbours were served with Abatement Order. Worked for me. The complaint has to be properly investigated of course. But if it is valid, the Council seems to be OK.

I think anyone who buys a house near a pub should accept that pubs generate a certain amount of noise, tbh.
In recent years I've heard stories of people moving into properties near the Pelham and the Lewes Arms who've complained about noise within weeks of moving in. Neither are particularly noisy pubs and if they don't like noise they should have checked it out by coming down on a weekend and seeing how noisy it is at chucking out time.
It really seems a bit rich to expect a pub's clientele to change their ways just because you've moved into the area.
