Lewes Bonfire
Latest Lewes Bonfire posts
Guy, Dont be so stupid the explosion was in December so the containers were for other displays nothing to do with Lewes Bonfire night.
Those that shout the loudest know the leastest . . U guy have the freedom of speech that was denied to all untill after late 1600s . . By freedom of speech , I mean religion, opinion, politics etc etc . Many forbears of yours unless they were one eyed cretins fought for your freedom so that you can rant and rave to your hearts delight. All the Lewes Bonfire Night is doing is declaring that right to do so . So shut the f**K UP x x
Brixtonbelle, the figures you ask for, as per the Sussex Police press release:
Over 40,000 people, including numerous local residents, are estimated to have attended Lewes Bonfire 2009.
A total of 11 arrests were made throughout the night.
Four were arrested for ABH, two of the offenders are now on police bail, one offender was cautioned and one received no further action. One offender was arrested for GBH and bailed.
One arrest was made for cannabis possession and the offender received a reprimand. One arrest was made for Class A drug possession and the offender has been bailed pending drug analysis. One arrest was made for attempted theft of a vehicle and driving with excess alcohol, the offender was charged with being in charge of a motor vehicle whilst unfit through alcohol and no further action was taken for the attempted theft of an unattended motor vehicle.
One arrest was made for criminal damage and the offender received a final warning and one arrest was made for drunk and disorderly behaviour and later for burglary, the offender is still being dealt with in custody.
One arrest was also made by the Roads Policing Unit for driving whilst disqualified.
Despite the large crowds, the event passed safely from a police perspective.
Damned if they do damned if they don't. Lewes Bonfire is an accident waitng to happen. So if there were no police and something disastrous were to happend then, people wpould be asking ' where are all the police' they cannot win.
Just my own observations from last night. Generally i thought the Plod were very good last night and much less intrusive than last year. one I spoke to was on his 9th year and knew the palce like the back of his hand. Theres another thread on here about a Plod van being stuck cos they didnt know hot to get to a firesite. Well thats a management problem. If they haven't "done" lewes bonfire before then they won't know.............
And the other thread about someone moaning about being accosted by the Plod, why do people always go off on one? You explained what you were doing, the Plod was wrong (prob thought you were pissed and assaulting someone) Jeezz, chill out. Do you want a judicial review or what? Are you scarred for life?
The weather was a major bonus last night, I thought that maybe there were slightly fewer people than last year, it seemed a bit easier to move about in Cliffe area than the last few years.
Certainly where i was it was a great night. Well done everyone.
But the road closure and parking......:( That needs looking at. (didnt effect me) People walking on the A27 at midnight is NOT good! Thats where you need the Plod.
